Regent’s View project
Regent's View masterplan follows the original setting of the Bethnal Green Victorian Gasholders. It incorporates two gasholder frames and five new distinctive buildings ranging from 6-13 storeys. The old gasholders date from 1853 and were built for the Imperial Gas Light and Coke Company to store coal gas. The smaller gasholder No. 2 designed by Joseph Clarke and the larger gasholder, No. 5 by George Trewby. Built in 1889 this is one of the few remaining examples of a ‘lattice-guide frame’ gasholders.
Both remaining circular cast iron frame structures will be dismantled, refurbished, and reinstated. The new neighborhood will have over 2,000 homes, 4,182 sq m of flexible non-residential floorspace, and 1.75 acres of a new public open space.
New apartments are set in five buildings maximising the site’s visual and pedestrian accessibility.
The five-round building structures optimise the number of properties with direct views of the park and the Regent’s Canal and improve the site’s visual and pedestrian accessibility. Painted in different vivid colours each new building will have its identity. The colours reflect the appearance of the industrial gasholder bell, and ‘follow the spirit’ of the old gas holders’ frames.
Regent’s View interiors and facilities
Regent’s View apartment interiors are contemporary with striking industrial design details and features. Designed by the MAWD practice to ‘display elements of calm and cozy nature’. The apartments are well-proportioned urban dwellings with open-plan living quarters. The layouts vary and many floor plans follow the curvature of the round buildings. Large glazing to maximise natural light and area views is standard in each property. Each home comes with a generous balcony or terrace. Larger apartments feature en suite master bedrooms and a generous walk-in wardrobe space. Other features are engineered wood flooring, bespoke tiles and cabinetry, recycled terrazzo kitchen worktops, built-in wardrobes, smart bathroom shelving and fittings, high-quality integrated kitchen appliances, three tiled bathroom walls, porcelain tiled floors, and ceramic bathroom ware. Dark metal and fluted glass finishes are some of the design touches inspired by the site’s industrial past.
Residents of Regent’s View have access to modern amenities including a 24-hour concierge, a fitness centre, a screening room, a residents' lounge, a squash court, a shared workspace, meeting rooms, a creative studio, and the newly landscaped park and Regent’s Canal walkway.
