Elephant and Castle Elephant Park the Park

Elephant Park, London SE1 & SE17

Elephant Park is an award-winning central London development offering an extensive collection of contemporary apartments and houses amidst terrific green spaces. Covered by postcodes SE1 & SE17, the neighbourhood is part of the London Borough of Southwark.

Centred around a two-acre park, this south London district is part of a larger regeneration programme delivering a new town centre for Elephant and Castle. The project includes new housing, transport infrastructure, a public realm, educational, leisure and hospitality facilities. At the heart of it is the new shopping centre and the new campus for the London College of Communication, part of the UAL.

Early phases of the Elephant Park development include Trafalgar Place (completed 2015) and One the Elephant (completed 2016). These two distinctive, contemporary residential schemes are by the same developer Lendlease.

South Gardens, West Grove, West Grove Square, East Grove, Park Central West, Park Central East and Park & Sayer are individual phases of Elephant Park.

The Elephant & Castle regeneration is one of 18 projects from across the world chosen to be part of the Climate Positive Development Programme. The neighbourhood is planned with emphasis on sustainable construction, energy-efficient buildings and homes, new and biodiverse parks and gardens and improved public transport and cycle network.

South Gardens Elephant Park

South Gardens and West Grove apartments are set within a mix of mid-rise mansion blocks and towers. There are studios, one, two, there bedroom apartments and penthouses featuring extensive glazing and contemporary interiors which all extend onto large private terraces or balconies.

South Gardens provides 24-hour concierge services, access to a residents’ only meeting room and terrace with far-reaching city views, as well as entry to a private gymnasium. Many units overlook or have direct access to one of three residents’ landscaped courtyards.

The scheme won the Housing Design Award 2018, the only award promoted by all 5 major professional institutions – RICS, RIBA, RPTI, Landscape Institute and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. 'South Gardens creates accessible, useful, and beautiful shared ground-level courtyards and upper floor roof terraces where residents can both feel a sense of ownership of their environment and engender a sense of community. These are augmented by generous private insets, projecting and bay balconies, loggias, gardens, and terraces. Spaces for a variety of activities are provided, from social gatherings between neighbours to secluded niches set within planting for quiet contemplation. These spaces consist of an array of plant layers from large trees down through to a mid-canopy layer of small fruiting trees and shrubs to a flowering herbaceous border and areas of floral lawn. There is a roof-level Grow Garden where residents can grow their own plants and vegetables.'

Elephant Park South Gardens is home to the Futurehome scheme of ultra-low energy living compliant with Passivhaus Institute’s standards. Futurehome neighbourhood comprises 15 townhouses set along Wansey Street.

West Grove Elephant Park

West Grove is the second phase of the development which has 593 homes in a variety of sizes set within two tall buildings and a series of mansions blocks.

Orchard Point, a 19-storey tower, is the tallest building within this phase and Orchard Garden Terrace will house a number of ground-floor shops. Selected apartments have allocated parking with electric charging points.

Park Central West & Park Central East

Park Central West and Park Central East form the third phase of this regeneration project. Located along New Kent Road, it comprises five buildings including a 24-storey tower block. Buildings are linked by a podium reserved for residential amenities (24-hour concierge, lounge and cafe, resident's room and gym) and retail. The scheme was completed in July 2021 and won 2023 RIBA London award as a 'vibrant welcoming place with good-quality homes accessible to a wide range of people’.
