East Bank Stratford London SE15

East Bank & Stratford Waterfront, E15

East Bank London is a new destination on the eastern edge of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. This brand-new culture-led district incorporates Here East and Stratford Waterfront quarters.

Stratford Waterfront is owned freehold of The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC). The masterplan envisages an open, accessible, and well-connected neighbourhood embracing residential districts, cultural and educational institutions as well as the well-established open public spaces.

The site of Stratford Waterfront covers a slender strip of land bordered by the River Lea, Carpenter’s Road and the Waterworks River, and The International Quarter business development. The district is adjacent to Westfield Stratford City and overlooks the Olympic Park with the iconic London Aquatics Centre.

Stratford Waterfront occupies 1.8 hectares and contains two distinctive areas: the culture and education quarters in the south, and the residential neighbourhood to the north, which will deliver 600 new homes.

The new homes are arranged in a cluster of four residential buildings, with the tallest  at the prow of the site where the River Lea and the Waterworks River meet. Three of four buildings are by the award-winning Allies and Morrison architects. Designed as a superior, high-quality residential development, it boasts an enviable waterside location within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Stratford Waterfront offers premier urban living in the middle of a dynamic new district which is also home to innovative, educational, cultural, and sporting institutions and attractions. In addition, residents will be able to enjoy an impressive network of unique East London waterways and parks.

The culture and education buildings include the London College of Fashion, V&A East, Sadler's Wells and the BBC.

The new public landscape will seamlessly blend into the Olympic Park, using materials and planting that reflect both the character of the Olympic Park and those of the institutions.

Work on Stratford Waterfront began in the autumn of 2019. The Carpenters Road Land Bridge’s installation on Christmas Day 2019 marked the first completion on the site. This pedestrian and cycle bridge links Stratford Waterfront with The International Quarter and the Stratford town centre. The estimated completion of 600 new homes and the residential district is expected by 2028.

Anticipated completion for the London College of Fashion is 2023. Sadler's Wells, the BBC and V&A buildings will complete across 2025.

Stratford travel hub provides varied transport links to central London and beyond. London Underground, Overground, TFL and the National Rail services are accessed easily and quickly via Carpenters Road Land Bridge.

East Bank is a new powerhouse for innovation, creativity and learning on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It is a unique collaboration between world-leading universities, arts and culture institution with opportunities for everyone who visits, lives and works in east London.” - Mayor of London.

Lyn Garner, chief executive of the LLDC adds that: “East Bank will be the glue that binds together the different elements on the Olympic Park from world-class visitor attractions, high-tech business districts, thousands of new homes and wonderful parkland and open spaces.”

The other parts of East Bank include UCL East, a new campus for the University College London set in the south of the Olympic Park, and the V&A’s new collection and research centre which will be located at the former press centre for the London 2012 Olympics. East Bank is supported by the Mayor of London, and part funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Once complete, the East Bank development will unlock more than 2,500 jobs, bring an additional 1.5 million visitors, and generate an estimated £1.5 billion for the local economy.
