This twelve-acre micro-city comprises 1,706 apartments, creative, retail and office space. Once the backwater of the world’s mightiest dock and a margarine factory site, London City Island has been transformed into a dynamic neighbourhood. It is set at the point where the Thames meets the River Lea, with a backdrop of the stunning Canary Wharf skyline.
London City Island oozes creativity, from the new headquarters of the English National Ballet and the London Film School, where floor-to-ceiling windows will offer a glimpse into the activity inside, to the ‘makers pads’ scattered throughout the development for showcasing various creative work. The central space will allow for public performances and events year-round, which will keep residents and visitors entertained day and night.
A thriving central square is reserved for independent restaurants, cafes and grocers. A 1 km green fringe surrounding the island offers a series of beautifully landscaped public spaces and trails.
All residents of London City Island are members of the City Island Arts Club providing direct access to private amenities including a stylish clubhouse, a modern grocer, concierge services, gymnasium, spa, an outdoor heated pool and indoor hydro pool and gardens.
Transport
The new City Island Bridge links the neighbourhood to Canning Town station which is served by the Jubilee Underground line, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and many local London busses.
Apartments
Designed with a warehouse aesthetic in mind, and taking inspiration from the most impressive contemporary waterside cityscapes (Chicago’s skyscrapers at Burnham Park; The Ocean-side buildings at Makuhari Bay in Tokyo and iconic Manhattan), most of apartments blocks were prefabricated in a Dutch factory and then shipped to the UK. Each of London City Island's 10 buildings is painted in a striking colour (blue, white, black, orange or red) and features a distinctive and strong, yet simple design. Lovers of contemporary architecture will relish at the site of London City Island.
Each building maximises the riverfront with block heights ranging from 3 to 27-storeys, and each including either a balcony or a canopy. Apartment sizes vary from one bedroom suites to penthouses, each with generous open-plan living space and often with loft style features.
Local Area
London City Island itself has an onsite café/ restaurant and grocer. For those wishing to venture a little further, hop on the DLR to North Greenwich where the O2 Arena has a plethora of entertainment options. Visit London’s only lighthouse at Trinity Buoy Wharf nearby with two light eateries overlooking the O2. Alternatively, take a trip to Canary Wharf or to Stratford Westfield Shopping Centre for many designer and high street brands, nightlife and entertainment.
